Posted by Charles Heflin as social media marketing
It’s true. I got the whole thing on tape, though I don’t know if it would carry the same price tag as a Paris Hilton video. It’s amazing how much is shared between them and while I’m certainly no supporter of philandering… I think you should encourage your blog to get a little crazy with your e-mail marketing as well.
They don’t have to like each other at first, but when you put them together it doesn’t take a long time for them to realize their similarities in order for them to make a little music. It won’t be pretty at first (images of the two elephants from the movie Love Guru are burned into my mind) but soon they’ll be breeding leads like mice.
Email marketers might feel a little out of sorts in today’s marketing world because many people think email is getting to be passé and it’s not “social”. Truth be told, it is. If you want to breed leads then you have to mix it up. The content created for blogs and the visitors who read them should be considered assets for email marketing.
Getting those two to tango doesn’t have to be complex, or even remotely difficult. Use all the steps necessary to dress your email offers up in some scantily clad forms of attraction so they’re in front of blog visitors and repurpose your best blog content for email engagement
Try out these 3 great email marketing tips to for mashing your email marketing and company blog:
Email Marketing Tips #1: Promote Subscriptions Within Your Blog
Blog marketing is a common tactic to engage consumers and drive a significant amount of traffic to a website. Blogs typically become landing pages for many companies as consumers search for solutions. If your offer form is only on your website, someone landing on your blog isn’t going to see it
Place an opt-in form in a visible location on your blog for visitors who may not visit other parts of your site. Use a widget to ensure that the opt-in appears on every page and post. This works for B2B marketers as well who can setup registration on their blog for additional resources (white papers, webinars, case studies, etc)
Email Marketing Tips #2: Enable Email Subscription For Posts
While RSS is standard on many blogs, you can use services like Feedblitz and Google’s Feedburner to allow a blog subscriber to receive updates via email. Not only will you attract more subscribers to your blog but you’re getting something that traditional RSS subscriptions don’t bring in – an email address.
Consider also that you can entice these readers to subscribe to a newsletter style “digest”. Instead of regular updates to your blog, they can receive a biweekly or monthly digest that shows a string of your recent topics and headlines. This appeals more to people who would like to follow you but don’t want to flood their inbox.
Email Marketing Tips #3: Repurpose Your Blog Content
Every blogger has had content that soars with readers. Unfortunately this content often falls into the archives once it’s had its few weeks or so of fame. Posts like this don’t always need to be left in the archives. It can be repurposed, rewritten and reused to make another significant impact through email marketing with people who don’t normally read the blog.
Even posts that don’t do well within a blog environment may be perfectly suited to deliver a targeted message via email.
A section of a newsletter can be devoted to the blog, where content (old and new) can be highlighted as it pertains to the other content. As blogs tend to be more conversational, they can add a lot of spice to more informational newsletters that could deliver a nice break to readers.
It certainly doesn’t take much to mingle the two, and the end result can bring in renewed interest, extra leads, further content sharing and a rise in traffic.

1What a great way to bring back old blog posts from the blogger cemetery. I’ve always thought blog posts would be an excellent source of content for e-mail marketing. The more ways you have to bring eyeballs to your business the better.
